After a tough year in 2009 many couples are returning to traditional values and continue to cut back on over extravagance. Brides will continue to seek value for money and spend wisely. We may be coming out of a recession but finances will remain tight for many in the year ahead.
Here is a collection of the hottest wedding trends for 2010.
Traditional Values
A return to traditional roots. Many couples are researching their religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds to bring a new depth to their weddings. Cultural traditions will be incorporated into the planned events and differentiate their weddings from the norm.
A return to being gracious. The good manners myth that newly-weds have a full year to write their thank you notes is being discarded. Instead couples appreciate what they receive more and will get their thank you notes signed, sealed and delivered within six weeks of their wedding.
And A Break From Traditional Values
Couples are seeing each other before their ceremony. While there are traditions and superstitions against this, many couples are ignoring this. Meeting up before the wedding allows you to savour the moment. You may decide to meet with your wedding photographer for bride and groom portraits before the stress of the day mounts or even get the family shots out of the way. This means you’ll have more time to enjoy your day and attend your own cocktail hour.
Line dances are out. For many couples the line-dancers are being banished from the wedding day play lists. However the traditional first dance of the bride and groom remains the high-light of the evening’s celebrations.
The bride’s mum is not longer the boss. Now many couples are footing their own wedding fees or at least the lion’s share, the bride’s mum has much less say than in the past. In today’s weddings the bride and groom are making the decisions in most cases.
Nearby weddings destinations
Far off destination weddings to exotic locations won’t be so popular for 2010. With people still feeling the pinch many couples will chose locations within the country. Destinations that can be reached by guests by car. They can then have a weekend break without breaking the bank. Spending money within the local economies and having a greener effect.
Eco-Friendly
As everyone’s understanding of green issues increases and the effects of global warming are being felt, today’s couples are emerging with an eco-conscience. A guide to a greener wedding is included as part of your FREE eWedding course.
Back to Basics
Events will focus on the attention to the details, the foundation of the event, not the drama or grandeur of the evening. Consider spending more on the lasting memories than the showmanship of the event. Spend a bit more than the average budget allotment on photography mediums rather than abundant floral. Or consider a bit of a longer stay on your honeymoon and a little less of a party at the reception and you’ll be grateful for your decision in the end.
Wedding Favours Are Back
Personalized appreciation is back. Although favours are an expense that’s easy to eliminate, right now couples are especially grateful to guests who have incurred considerable expense to be a part of the celebration. The 2010 wedding trend will be using home-made favours to express that thanks, and to send guests home with your personal love.
Next Year’s Fashion
Birdcage Veils
Vintage Glamour with a Birdcage Veil
These vintage-look veils combine a jeweled clip or feathered headpiece with netting that only covers the face. Wearing a birdcage veil allows you to have some dramatic vintage glamour and feel like a bride, but is a more fun look and less hassling than a long traditional veil.
Strapless Wedding Dresses
If you’re saying to yourself, “This isn’t a new 2010 wedding trend!” you’re right.
Strapless dresses have been extremely popular for several years now. And though more brides are opting for sleeves, straps, and other ways of covering their shoulders, strapless is likely to continue to be the dominant style for the near future.
Colours
Monochromatic palettes – this doesn’t mean muted colours, just single colour garments rather than multi-coloured or patterned.
Vibrant Colours: Orange, green, yellow, and pink. Metal Colours: Gold, silver, copper, and pewter. And black is definitely the new black. Break the rules and show off the darker side of your event.
There are many thoughts about which colours will be the hit. But I think the colour isn’t the be all and end all. Go for colour that suits you and perhaps your wedding theme if you have one. The key is don’t be afraid to break tradition and move away from the white bridal dress.
Make your statement.
Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses
For several years, brides have been selecting a bridesmaid dress designer and a fabric, then letting their bridesmaids choose the style that works best for their bodies. But the 2010 wedding trend takes the idea further.
Choose only one colour, then let your bridesmaids find an off-the-rack dress of any designer that they like. Not only does this take some pressure off of you, but it also ensures that women are choosing a dress they like and they’ll be likely to actually wear again. If you follow this trend, be sure to tell your bridesmaids how formal the dress should be – you don’t want one bridesmaid wearing a casual sun-dress while another has on a beaded evening gown.
