Winter Wedding Photography In Suffolk

Winter wedding photo of the bride and groom outside The Bull Hotel, Long Melford, Suffolk

by Pat Bloomfield on 26/01/2010

Here are the first few winter wedding photos from Laura and Phil who got married earlier this week.  They got married at The Bull Hotel, Long Melford in Suffolk.  Laura and Phil make a fantastic couple.  And they had wonderful celebrations with their closest friends and family.

Being early December we’re approaching the shortest day of the year.  So we knew it would be dark especially with their ceremony starting at 4:00pm!

However, I was surprised to find it so dark in the bar that the camera was unable to focus on Phil.  It was so dark I had to fit my flashgun to use its focus assist feature.  The flashgun illuminated Phil to enable the camera to focus before taking the shot.  The light Exposure Value was 3, which is equivalent to watching fireworks!

I only used a touch of fill flash so the picture still looks very natural without the usual tell tale signs of using a flashgun.  You may have seen the tell tale signs on some other other wedding photographers’ web sites?

You know; people looking like card board cut outs and unsightly shadows cast onto the wall behind them.

After the ceremony and traditional group photos Phil & Laura came away with me for some bride and groom portraits.  We started outside The Bull Hotel as you can see in opening picture above.

Laura is very keen on contemporary wedding photography such as the bridal portrait below.

I was undecided whether to leave this in colour or convert to black & white.  This actually looks great in B&W.  But as the bride’s skin tones rendered in a pleasing colour I decided to stick with colour for this particular shot.
