Ten inspiring ideas to help you create a wedding reception that your guests will remember. The key is in the details.
Details can add sparkle to the décor and fun to bump up the party atmosphere.
1. Keep it personal
Rather than number your tables give them interesting names. The names may mean something special to you both, such as songs you love or places you have visited. This will add mystery and intrigue as your guests wonder what it all means. They will also have fun searching for their table!
2. Break the mould
Break the mould with your wedding cake. Instead of the traditional three tiers you could opt for something that will create a focal point. Stark colours and unusual designs will have your guests talking. If your wedding is based on a theme your cake’s design could compliment it.
3. Take it outside
If you are getting married in the summer months, don’t forget to make the most of your venues exterior. You could hang decorations to look great in the daytime. Lanterns and fairy lights will look fantastic for the evening. If there are tables outdoors you could also have candles to complete the perfect romantic setting.
4. Love Letters
Guest books are a great way for your guests to write their personal messages to you. However they can be frustrating waiting around for a long time to enter comments, so you will loose many comments. Instead consider love letters.
Providing love letters make it easy for your guests to fill-in and leave in a collection basket for you. As well as having those on a separate table as one would do with a guest book, put them on each place mat for all your sit down guests.
5. Create a couture cocktail
Wedding Reception Details
Create your very own wedding cocktail with the help of your caterer or bartender. It will make a statement about your style and allow you to share something special about yourselves.
6. Break the tradition
Instead of having the speeches after the wedding breakfast, have them as soon as everyone is seated. The wedding speeches are incredibly nerve racking for the groom, best man and father-of-the-bride. Having the speeches first means they can relax and enjoy the meal.
Your wedding photographer may also be prepared to stay until the end of the speeches, so you will save money on your wedding photography as well!
7. Evening change
Transform you look for the evening celebration from the pretty princess to the sophisticated bride. This can easily be done with a few simple changes. Abandon the veil if you have not already done this. Change your jewellery to something that will make a statement about you. Be bold.
Customise your dress with a simple coloured satin sash will add glamour and elegance.
8. Kidding around
To help prevent the younger guests causing mayhem plan some well-timed diversions. Booking an entertainer for the children will keep them amused in the time between your meal and start of the evening celebrations. Alternatively someone could plan a treasure hunt or games to play in the outdoor grounds of your wedding venue.

9. Save money with Traditional tea
Rather than have a full four course wedding breakfast have an English tea party. Serve sandwiches, salad followed by scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. This could be great money saving alternative and perfect if you are having a vintage style wedding or a garden wedding.
10. Light up the night sky
Instead of fireworks consider sky lanterns to end your wedding celebrations. Sky lanterns look beautiful and are romantic. Sky lanterns are traditional in Asia and have become very popular here over the last few years.
Once they have been lit they slowly fill with hot air before lifting off into the night sky. See www.skylanterns.com for more information.
