Will the birdcage veil be the next wedding trend to hit the UK?

by Pat Bloomfield on 07/03/2010

The Birdcage veil is making a come back as a fabulous wedding accessory for the modern bride.

Made popular in the 1940’s, the birdcage veil was worn by glamorous actresses in Hollywood and brides alike.

Regaining popularity with today’s fashionable brides in the states, the birdcage veil is definitely back in vogue.  Drew Barrymore recently wore a birdcage veil on the Red Carpet for her film “Grey Gardens”.

The birdcage veil can be made slightly longer or shorter to suit your tastes.  It is an easy to wear accessory that will compliment many styles of wedding gown and look very chic.  None more so than the vintage styles that are also back in vogue now.  The veil is usually worn with your hair tied up.  But also makes the ideal if you have a shorter hair style.

The birdcage veil is a very elegant accessory to complete your chic look.

Being short and light it is easy to wear unlike the traditional veil that can be heavy and cumbersome.  It’s also very popular for brides marrying for a second time as the long white veil is only suitable for their first wedding.

Whether you’re marrying for the first time or have been married before the birdcage veil is perfect for you.  But there aren’t many places you can buy them in the UK.

Frustrated bride Rachel Betteridge got so frustrated looking for chic accessories for her wedding, she set up her own bridal shop!

Hi Chantele,

Wow your wedding sounds as though it will be fantastic with a black and white theme!

I think birdcage veils look wonderful whether in fashion or not. Another way to look is you’re a trend setter :-)

I wanted something different for my wedding in early 2009 and I didn’t like the traditional veils that fell over my shoulder. I had my dress specially made and it was very different, so I wanted a veil that would match. I ended up making my veil because at the time (early 2009) I could not find a supplier who could sell me what I wanted. I have since set up my own bridal shop offering birdcage veils and other bespoke items for those girls who like me, wanted something modern and different.
