Summer weddings are in the peak season for getting married and for good reason with the long warm days and a good chance of great weather.
Planning your summer wedding well in advance is crucial for the success of your wedding. Everything needs to be booked at least six months in advance especially popular wedding venues, which may need booking over a year before your wedding day!
Here are some hints & tips to help ensure the success of your summer wedding.

- Dramatic lighting used for an example of a summer Next Day Shoot, often referred to as “Trash The Dress”.
Summer Wedding Dresses
When you get married through the warmth of the summer months you will be able to confidently buy a sleeveless or strapless summer wedding dress that will flatter you. This will give you added comfort in the heat of the day over the Groomsmen who will most likely be wearing full suits including waist coats. Your dress will be made in a light breathable fabric, which will be airy to help keep you comfortable through the heat of the day.
Many dresses come with small jackets just to cover the shoulders. This could prove a great investment if the weather is cooler or in the evening especially if you are holding an outdoor reception.
Choose flowers to match and complement your wedding dress or theme

- Bridal Bouquet

- Button hole
You will be spoilt for choice through the summer months so finding the right colour flowers should be easy. The traditional roses are always popular. Tropical flowers will be another great choice to add colour with style.
Summer Fruits
Summer fruits are ideal for providing cool thirst quenching refreshment at your wedding. A fruit punch is ideal for your wedding breakfast and evening reception. When appetites are lost through the heat of the day, fruit salads will make an ideal starter that could be followed by a light chicken or fish dish rather than a full roast meal.
Summer Wedding Transport
Long beautiful days packed with hot sunny days just cries out for open topped transport for your wedding day. You could choose to have a romantic open
topped horse drawn carriage or a convertible vintage car or even an exquisite sports car.
On the other hand you may prefer the luxury of an air condition limousine!
Depending on where you get married you could even go for an open topped double Decker bus and be really different.

- The open horse drawn carriage makes great wedding transportation.
Outdoor location wedding
Perhaps you’re thinking of a location wedding such as an English Garden Wedding or a Beach Wedding. Summer is the ideal time for a location wedding that could work really well any time from mid spring though to late autumn given our Indian Summers.
Are you prepared for bad weather?
Even if you’re getting married in August your day could be dampened with freak weather conditions or just rain such as the image above.
Whether you’re getting married outdoors or at a wedding venue it is always worth ensuring bad weather is catered for. Your guests will want to retreat indoors and take shelter. In addition to a retreat you will need an area where group wedding photos can be taken.
If you’re getting married outdoors on location, consider having a marquee. Not only can they provide a retreat, all your reception needs can be satisfied such as catering and entertainment.
Be prepared for a hot sunny day
We all want fantastic weather on our wedding day. However going through a long hot day can take its toll through dehydration. It is a good idea to have a bottle of refreshing water handy. This could be left in the wedding car as it is not practical for you or your Bridesmaids to carry around.
Depending on the type of reception you are planning, it may be worth having water freely available for your guests.
Summer Wedding Photography
Getting married during the summer months can be very colourful outdoors with an array of brightly coloured flowers and foliage. Add to this, warm blue skies and lush green grass and you have fabulous backgrounds for your wedding photography.
Try to plan your day to avoid having your wedding photos taken around midday. The harsh sun light and strong shadows will make photography difficult unless there is some shelter available such as trees or wall. If possible aim to complete your wedding service no earlier than 2pm so the midday sun has passed before doing the group shots. And it will be even better for your shots together should your photographer dedicate time to photographing you together.
Do not forget your photographer will be working their socks off all day. So if you could provide some light refreshment especially if they are staying on through your reception celebration will be greatly appreciated.
