Bride & groom sign the marriage register
I recently heard one couple’s horror story with their wedding photographer. I heard the story by chance from a guy bought my Mitsubishi Pajero V6 3.0 4×4.
The guy was in the motor trade and we had been chatting casually. I mentioned taking a redundancy deal in order to take up full time photography. He then asked if I knew the wedding photographer who photographed his wedding. Amazingly, I did know the photographer in question and HAD held them in high regard.
I was mortified when I heard the ensuing story!
The professional photographer, who shall remain nameless, had been very impressive when they originally met to discuss their wedding details. The loved the photographs and were quickly sold on a wedding package.
On the day of the wedding things did not go as expected. The photographer completely took over their day. They had been ordered around all day and they were deeply upset by the whole experience!
But worse was jet to come!
Thank you card received from one of my brides.
The newly weds soon forgot about the wedding photographer’s behaviour once they got away on their honeymoon. They had liked the photographer’s portfolio so what was there to worry about?
When they returned from their honeymoon they arranged to view their images and choose the pictures for their wedding album. The photographer also sold them a large framed print, which promised to be magnificent. The price was agreed and a deal to pay half up front in cash and the rest on delivery. The couple left happily in great anticipation of all the wonderful wedding products they would be getting.
All seemed well.
A few weeks later they received the call to say their products were ready for them to collect. Excited they made an appointment to collect their wedding albums and large framed print.
They were in for a shock!
Bride & Groom leave the church in a horse drawn carriage.
They were informed that they would have to pay double the price agreed!
He could not believe his ears. He was fuming – who wouldn’t be?
He demanded his money back. The photographer refused. Eventually after threatening to put the picture through the photographer’s window the photographer offered to reduce the price by £100.
By this time any pleasure that the frame print was lost. He said the actual print quality was poor and blotchy like a canvas, which I assume was not intentional.
He got so angry he stuck his foot through the picture and left the photographer with the frame!

Apparently they are not alone with having terrible experiences at the hand of this wedding photographer. I guess meeting many people all the time being in the motor trade brings him in contact with a lot of people and they share their horror stories.
I cannot imagine how anyone could run a business in this manner. It is downright deceitful to mislead clients. Of course the photographer’s intention was that the couple would pay the additional money once the products were put in front of them. Personally I find this kind of behaviour despicable.
This kind of behaviour gives the whole profession a bad name.

hi,
We got married in august and used a local photographer. When we finally got the disc they were of the poorest snap shop images imaginable.
They were out of focus, blurry. Eyes closed etc. When questioned he said they were of the highest quality. Ourselves are in the industry printing fine art and Canvas.
We are only to aware of photo editing using Photoshop.
We asked for all images on a disc. He then claimed the disc was corrupt. Having looked at his properties on the images, he was using iso800 with a f10 stop.
Not only that he also made a complete mess on another wedding after us. She is Also seeking compensation.
I would be only to pleased to name this Photographer.
I dont want another newly wed couple to go through what we have.
Your advice and help would be appreciated
Terrry and Jan
Hi Terry,
I’m sorry to hear your horror story. I can empathise with how you must be feeling as I’m currently helping friends in a similar situation. We were guests at the wedding and their photographer made a complete mess-up; missing many key shots, badly organised group photos, using flash gun on every shot, placing bride and groom in strong sun light, not getting photographs of the wedding car. The list just goes on and on.
My photos taken from the sidelines are their favourites and I was the only one to capture the release of love doves albeit from behind as the photographer was “managing” the situation.
They’re trying to sort something out with their photographer now but I’ll probably end up sorting it out and creating the album with the best pictures taken by photographer and guests. This will be time consuming and may cost them more than their original expected wedding photography costs.
I may be able to help you making the best of what’s available but it will be very expensive as it will be very labour intensive.
Good luck, I hope you can resolve your issues with your photographer.

Hi Pat,
thank you for your reply. I use photoshop daily, and the images are that poor, can not use or make best.
To add to the situation, the said photographer messed up another wedding.
She just happens to be a solicitor.
The insurance details on his contract are nil and void. He made the policy up.
GGGGGrRRRRRRR.
One thing for sure we are both taking him to court.
People like him tarnish the reputation of other top quality wedding photographers.
I dont want any more couples to go through what we have.
Regards
Terry
i had a photographer who farmed the job out to someone who took photos worse than a 4 year old! he knows we arent happy, he didnt let us have choice in the album or anything and has told me he wont deliver the photos and they will be in his garden on the day of collection by us!
Hi Amanda,
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a terrible experience.
I’m guessing this was a sole photographer so you were not expecting a stranger photographing your wedding day. It seems very strange that you have to collect them from his garden and not the studio.
If you’re not happy with the style of photographs you could ask for a free “Trash The Dress” session from the photographer whose work you liked originally. Alternatively, you could seek advice from a professional photography body such as the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers, http://www.swpp.co.uk/ who’ll give you impartial advice.
